Dinosaur Toys Are Inspiring Kids Everywhere

By bfreetoy

With the natural curiosity in kids and thirst to learn about the dinosaurs in history, we have found information and dinosaur toys that will satisfy the curiosity about these prehistoric creatures.

The first dinosaur fossil that was found in the US was found by Dr. Caspar Wistar in Gloucester Country, New Jersey in 1787. It was a thigh bone which has been lost, but more fossils were later found in the area. The first nearly-complete dinosaur skeleton was discovered by William Parker Foulke. Foulke had heard of a discovery made by workmen in a Cretaceous marl (a crumbly type of soil) pit on the John E. Hopkins farm in Haddonfield, New Jersey beginning in 1838. Foulke heard of the discovery and recognized its importance in 1858. Unfortunately, some of the bones had already been removed by workmen. The skull-less dinosaur was excavated and named by US anatomist Joseph Leidy who named it Hadrosaurus fouki (meaning “Foulke’s big lizard”). It was a duck-billed dinosaur (but it is now a doubtful genus because there is so little fossil information about it). The “Haddonfield Hadrosaurus” is on display at the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences.

An article that was published in June 2005 had an astonishing effect on people who read the release. For the second time in two months, a Tyrannosaurus Rex recently excavated in Montana has surprised scientists.

Among its rock-hard fossils, the scientists had already isolated soft tissues, including blood vessels and cells lining them – a most improbable discovery after thousands of years. The same paleontologists may now have topped that. They reported that the same T. rex has yielded unusual bone tissue that shows that the animal was an ovulating female. Until now, distinguishing the sex of dinosaurs has been impossible without well-preserved pelvic bones.

Mark A. Norell of the American Museum of Natural History said the embryo
discovery changes scientific conclusions about an entire species of dinosaurs.

A fossil of the dinosaur species was first found at an ancient Gobi Desert
nest in 1923. Researchers concluded that the animal died while eating eggs of
some other animal and named the dinosaur oviraptor, Latin for “egg seizer” or
“egg thief.”

But with the discovery of the embryo, said Norell, there is evidence that the
1923 find was misinterpreted and oviraptor was given a bum rap.

“We have shown that the animal actually was protecting or brooding those eggs”

and not eating them, Norell said, and that the eggs were the oviraptor’s own.

With this fascinating discovery, Safari Ltd. has manufactured a toy to imitate the breakthrough. They made an Oviraptor in Dinosaur Egg that’s an authentic, hand-painted replica of the first carnivorous dinosaur embryo ever found. It explains that the real dinosaur egg was discovered in 1994 by Mark Norell while on a fossil hunting expedition in Mongolia. It was recreated by renowned paleo-artist Denis Wilson as it appeared in the Cretaceous period between 65 and 99 million years ago. The replica is actual size and constructed of durable polyvinyl. It includes an educational hang tag with lots of information for the kids.

We found a unique gift idea called the Dino Toob by Safari Ltd. They have different Dinosaur Toobs as well. Teachers have used these for educational purposes and kids absolutely love them! We also found it to be a great gift for a young inspired dinosaur fan or a great dinosaur-themed birthday party.

I Dig Dinosaurs allows kids to put on their digging goggles and dig up fossils or little dinosaurs. I Dig Dinosaurs is created by Action Products and encourages kids to use their imagination at its max. Whether it takes them to Mongolia or Montana. They will enjoy using their own digging tool to find amazing discoveries! Invite friends to go on these fossil-hunting adventures. Guaranteed it will make the game that much more fun!
